In this version of the IELTS test, you will pass the Listening and speaking task part. You must prove that you can understand and answer everyday questions related to your personal experiences, family, friends, work or health. IELTS Life Skills Task Levels
IELTS Life Skills is accessible at two task part levels of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference):
- IELTS Life Skills : A-1 Listening and Speaking
- IELTS Life Skills : B-1 Listening and Speaking
Prepare for IELTS Life Skills
IELTS Life Skills A1 level will last between 16 and 18 minutes while B2 level can last 22 minutes. You will listen to a task played on a CD and then you will have to answer the questions posed by the examiner. You will also have a discussion on the topic you have been listening to.
For preparation, try to find as many audio samples for your skill level and engage in some Q&A practice. Don’t listen to samples only with headphones! During your exam, you will hear the task in your exam room, and it might be harder to listen if you practiced with headphones. Last Minute Tips and Tricks for IELTS
Find English training resources online! The internet is the perfect source for IELTS preparation materials, tips and tricks and experiences from other candidates. With a little research, you can find a whole portfolio of preparation for all levels, in all formats (written texts, videos, test simulations, blogs, and interactive sites). Seek more advice from English instructors and IELTS candidates, and keep it in mind when training.
Additional 30 hours of free training: In many countries, if you register for an IELTS test through the British Council’s online registration system, you can get an additional 30 hours of free training.
Look for alternative resources. Ask your friends, colleagues and teachers to lend you their IELTS books, workbooks and listening material (CDs or cassettes). Post an announcement on your social media accounts to let everyone know you need IELTS preparation resources! You can also join a library with these types of materials, buy them at a bookstore, or order them online.
Keep Your IELTS Score Goal
Work it, until you live it! While preparing, try to keep your score goal in mind and find ways to make your learning experience enjoyable. Don’t stress! Mix your learning of English in your daily life with fun activities. Listen to the BBC, watch English TV and radio channels, play board games with English instructions, read the press online and much more. Try creating your own personalized preparation program, adding anything that you think would increase your English level and your confidence.
Your test date is approaching. Make sure you know how to reach your testing location and know when your testing appointment is scheduled. Read the information booklets for IELTS candidates in advance. Find rules, regulations, and other practical information about the exam process. Also, try to remember you ID, don’t forget it!
