Returnal is a roguelike third-person shooter and psychological horror video game developed by the Finnish company Houusemarque and published by Sony Interactive. The game was released on April 30, 2021 for Sony Playstation 5, and for Windows the project was released on February 15, 2023.
You have to play as an astronaut named Selena. Flying over the planet, your ship catches a strange signal, which the main character decided to check. At this moment, the spacecraft fails and falls to the surface of this very planet. From this moment begins your journey to explore the sea of mysterious events, “flashbacks” and, of course, a collision with the inhabitants of this planet.
Our today’s article will be devoted to the selection of configurations from AMD and Intel for comfortable gameplay of the Returnal game.
By what principle will we assemble the system unit
The concept of “comfortable gameplay” is different for everyone and depends on the monitor and resolution on which the user will play. But let’s agree that the hardware will be selected for Full HD 1920×1080 resolution, as the most popular for 2022 among users according to Steam, and 60 frames per second will be considered an acceptable FPS level.
The subsequent choice should meet two main factors:
Good price/performance ratio. For us, the most important thing is to choose the best option at an affordable price.
Versatility. The assembly is suitable not only for playing Returnal, but also for everyday tasks such as photo and video editing.
Minimum system requirements:
Operating system: Windows 10 (64-bit).
Processor: Intel Core i5-6400 (2.7 GHz) or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X (3.5 GHz).
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6 GB) or AMD Radeon RX 580 (8 GB).
RAM: 16 GB.
Free space: 60 GB (SSD).
Recommended system requirements:
Operating system: Windows 10 (64-bit).
Processor: Intel i7-8700 (3.7 GHz) AMD Ryzen 7 2700X (3.7 GHz).
Video Card: NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super (8 GB) AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT (12 GB).
RAM: 32 GB.
Free space: 60 GB.
We are only interested in the processor, video card and RAM, since they will determine the performance of the Returnal game.
System block configuration for minimum system requirements for AMD
Processor AMD Ryzen 5 1500X. This processor has been in production since 2017. Now it is very difficult to find it on sale, so we will choose a replacement. The most popular processor at the moment in terms of price / performance – Ryzen 5 5600G
This model, released in April 2021, immediately won a place in the system unit of economical gamers. The processor is built on the Zen3 architecture, has 6 cores and 12 threads. A distinctive feature of this processor is the integrated graphics core. That is, if your discrete graphics card fails, you can safely switch to the built-in graphics card in the processor and continue using the computer. However, at a low cost, the Ryzen 5 5600G can compete in performance with the more expensive Ryzen 5 5600X
You can see the difference in speed between these processors in this video.
For the performance of the system as a whole, a set of 16 GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB memory modules will be responsible.
RAM G.Skill TRIDENT Z RGB [F4-3200C16D-32GTZR] 32 GB
[DDR4, 16GBx2 pcs, 3200MHz, 16-18-18-38]

A good budget set of RAM modules, with XMP 3200Mhz at 16-18-18-38 timings will provide a good level of performance. By the way, timings can be adjusted and get a small increase in performance. How to overclock RAM we told here .
We select the video card last. It will be quite difficult to find the minimum GeForce GTX 1060 today, it remained only in the secondary market – we, of course, will not advise you to buy there. Our choice will be the Palit RTX 3050 Storm X graphics card.
This is a great budget option with good value for money. Since the GA106 chip itself, on which our video card is based, does not have a high level of power consumption, the cooling system for it will not be bulky. In gaming, the graphics card warms up to just over 65 ̊C with fairly quiet noise levels.
System unit configuration for minimum system requirements on Intel
We chose the Intel Core i3 12100f processor as the “heart” of our system unit.
This is a budget quad-core processor from Intel based on the Alder Lake architecture, Socket LGA1700. This processor socket was not chosen by chance. Firstly, this platform was released relatively recently, unlike the previous LGA1200. Secondly, it has good liquidity, which will be important in the future.
If you select an Intel processor in the same “weight” category with the Ryzen 5 5600G, then you should pay attention to the more expensive model – Intel Core i5 12400f
This processor consists of 6 cores and 12 threads, is built on the Alder Lake architecture and has a high clock speed of 4.4Ghz, which is important in games.
As for the choice of RAM and video card, in this assembly we leave them unchanged.
System block configuration for recommended system requirements for AMD
Let’s start with the processor. As a starting point for our assembly, let’s focus on the next generation processor – AMD Ryzen 5 5800X3D
Processor AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D BOX
[AM4, 8 x 3.4 GHz, L2 – 4 MB, L3 – 96 MB, 2xDDR4-3200 MHz, TDP 105 W]
33 299 ₽ *
This is perhaps one of the best models that AMD has released in terms of price / performance ratio. Since the recommended system requirements imply the installation of a more powerful video card, then the processor must also meet this bar. For more budget-conscious gamers, we can advise you to stay on the Ryzen 5600G / 5600X processor.
Increasing the power of the video card and increasing the resolution requires us to install a powerful processor, so the 5800X3D, although more expensive, is the most optimal.
The system requirements recommend 32 GB of RAM. According to numerous tests that are currently available on the Internet, the performance difference varies within 2% in favor of 32 GB, which is very small. If your plans do not include video processing or photo editing, then you can leave 16 GB memory modules for games.
If photo and video editing is one of your hobbies between games, then you can pay attention to the G.Skill Trident Z again.
